Background Information
In accordance with the Crown Land Management Act 2009, Alexandrina Council proposes to open a portion of Woodrow Drive, Milang as contained in Crown Record Volume 5753 Folio 691 into public road to recognise its current use.
Aerial imagery shows that a road has existed in this location since at least 1947. It is likely that the transition from land to road occurred over time; starting with a casual walking path that was widened by informal vehicle use into an unsealed road, which then required maintenance and was eventually sealed in recognition that it provided a natural access point to the river and formed a continuation of the existing portion of Woodrow Drive.
It is now an important contributor to the road network in Milang and, the primary access point for the Milang Marine Search Rescue Squadron who hold a lease with Council until 2038 for occupation of the ‘Milang Pump House’ on a portion of this land, as a Lake Rescue Centre.
Council is seeking submissions on the proposal to open the section of land, as identified in red below, to road. The portion of this land parcel not proposed to become road, will remain as community land, currently occupied by the Milang Marine Sea Rescue Squadron for the provision of community services.
The Council Report and Minutes, including the Information Pack and the Draft Plan for the proposed road opening are available to view in the document library to the right of this page.
A hard copy of the information that forms the Community Engagement process is also available for viewing at the offices of Alexandrina Council at Goolwa and Strathalbyn.
