This consultation has concluded.

Alexandrina Council is working on an exciting new initiative to better connect our tourism, primary production, environmental and cultural strengths.

Called Water and Wine it will see premium infrastructure upgrades of the Goolwa Wharf Precinct as a platform for connecting with tourism experiences across our region.

This is a major, multi-million dollar regional infrastructure project which will achieve greater national and international prominence as a premium attraction as well as growing regional prosperity through resulting tourism growth, diversifying markets for local primary producers and sustained creative and heritage endeavours.

Alexandrina Council were not successful in the most recent round of the Australian Government Regional Development Australia Fund Round 2 for the project "Water and Wine" seeking funding for premium infrastructure upgrades at the Goolwa Wharf Precinct in association with connectivity to Langhorne Creek Red Trails initiative.

The application did not receive regional support from the Regional Development Authority Adelaide Hills, Fleurieu and Kangaroo Island Committee (RDA AHFKI) to progress to Stage 2 of Federal funding assessment.

Representatives of the RDA AHFKI addressed Council's meeting of 6 February 2012 to provide feedback on the selection process noting that the top three regional priorities identified in this round were:

  1. Hills Community Options Inc - Betty Sickel's Legacy
  2. Kangaroo Island Council - Island Energy
  3. Southern Junction Community Services - Junction Centre Expansion

Alexandrina Council is continuing to identify future funding opportunities in liaison with the RDA AHFKI for this project.

UPDATE: Formal Council consultation on the Goolwa Wharf Precinct Upgrade commenced on 28 June 2012 for six weeks. We welcome your input at http://mysay.alexandrina.sa.gov.au/goolwawharf
