Milang Environmental Centre Incorporated - Draft Community Ground Lease
Consultation has concluded
Milang Environmental Centre Incorporated, request for new 10 year lease
Who are the Milang Environmental Centre Incorporated?
The Milang Environmental Centre Incorporated (MEC) is a community environmental organisation, run by a group of dedicated and enthusiastic volunteers who operate a recycling centre located at 1355 Milang Road, Milang. They have held a Lease with Council since 2003 for a term of 21 years and in that time have operated successfully, providing a number of recycling services to the community.
Some of the services offered by the Centre include recycling of bottles, cans, glassware, scrap metal, white goods, some furniture and various household items, including a pick-up service from several locations around Milang. They also recycle green waste to make mulch, which is supplied to the Community Gardens in Milang, Clayton Bay and the wider community.
The MEC plays an important role by contributing to the community and protecting the local environment. Funds raised by the Centre are used to sponsor and support several local community and environmental projects, including helping to fund new engines for the Milang Regatta Club rescue boat, as well as donating garden mulch, sponsorships and other donations to local community groups and organisations.
Due to the expiry of their 21 year Lease, the MEC have requested to enter into a new 10 year (5+5) Lease with Council so they can continue to operate and service the community as they have done so for many years.
