Consultation has concluded.

All six of our trial Greyhound Hours are now booked out. Keep an eye out at https://www.facebook.com/events/2102696330041877/ where we will promote any last minute availability for each event.

Please provide Feedback in the Forum Discussion below, if you have attended one of the greyhound hour events.

Some background: Following a hugely successful greyhound event in July 2018, Alexandrina Council has been granted a special exemption by the Dog and Cat Management Board, to trial monthly greyhound off-leash events at the Port Elliot Dog Park for a six month trial period. The monthly event will be known as 'Greyhound Hour.'

These events will provide greyhounds with a unique opportunity to run around off-leash in the dog park, just like other breeds are allowed to do. In South Australia, greyhounds are not ordinarily permitted to be exercised off-leash in any public place.

This series of trial events are a collaboration between Alexandrina Council, Friends of the Port Elliot Dog Park, Greyhound Racing SA Adoption Program and the Dog and Cat Management Board, and will be held once a month from January until June 2019.

Bookings are essential.

Important information:

  1. As a greyhound owner, you are already likely to be aware of basic behavioural habits of the greyhound breed. We do ask that you please read our Educational Check List to ensure this event is safe for you and your greyhound(s). You will be asked to sign this prior to entry at the event and abide by the advice, which will help Greyhound Hour to run smoothly and be enjoyable for all attendees and future attendees.
  2. The Port Elliot Dog Park will be closed (to non-greyhounds) from 10am-11am, allowing these loveable leggy giants a chance to run freely within the confines of the dog park. Bookings are essential and spots are limited for safety reasons. If you miss out on the first event, don’t worry, as events will be held once per month over the period of the six month trial.
  3. Please be aware that Greyhound Hour will be cancelled if temperature exceeds 32 degrees at time of event, 10am. We will provide event updates and advise cancellation of event via Council's website, www.alexandrina.sa.gov.au and Facebook page, facebook/alexandrinacouncil
  4. To cancel your attendance for an upcoming Greyhound Hour event, please complete the cancellation form here or select the 'survey' tab below.
