Draft Climate Emergency Action Plan and Environmental Action Plan
Consultation has now concluded. Updated plans will be presented at Council Meeting - 20 November 2023.
Council recognises that tackling climate change and environmental stewardship while maintaining thriving and liveable places for people is a monumental challenge – one that can only be successful if Council and community work together.
Because of these challenges we face, Council is preparing two key strategic documents, the draft Environmental Action Plan and the draft Climate Emergency Action Plan.
What are the roles of the draft Environmental Action Plan and draft Climate Emergency Action Plan?
The Environmental Action Plan 2030 expresses Council’s commitment and articulates that we will be worthy stewards of the land and waters of our Council area. This plan sets the context, the opportunities, and challenges for making the changes needed to protect our ecosystems, and to manage and enhance our Biodiversity, Waters and Communities.
The Climate Emergency Action Plan on the other hand is our key strategic document to reduce Council and community emissions within Alexandrina, to prepare for a changing climate and to seize the opportunities on the road to net zero.
Both plans assist Council and the community to act now to tackle the challenges of a changing climate, to protect and enhance nature, and to create a better built environment and a brighter future for all of us in Alexandrina.
