In 2021, Alexandrina Council considered the development of a dedicated off-leash dog park in Strathalbyn to provide the community with an open space area that is safe and convenient to use.

Dog parks provide a safe and secure environment where dogs can play, exercise and socialise off-leash with their human companions. Dog parks also create opportunities for recreation and socialising for everyone.

Typically, dog parks include off-street parking, perimeter fencing, separate lawn areas for off-leash play and exercise, seating and shelter and drinking fountain and bowl.
