Sections 131 and 134-137 Hundred of Kondoparinga in Strathalbyn
Revocation of Community Land Classification
Council’s Strategic Land Program is progressing a request from the adjoining landowners of sections 131 and 134-137 Hundred of Kondoparinga (and commonly referred to as ‘Whittam’s Transport Company’ land) on Sandergrove Road Strathalbyn, to revoke the community land classification of a number of unused and impractical Council reserves located within private land in order for Council to approach the Department for Environment and Water (DEW) to revoke the dedication of the reserves to Council.
The revocation of these reserves will provide the land owners with the capacity to appropriately design the proposed housing development on their land and better place the open space within the development in locations that are accessible and realistic for the residents and wider community.
The reserves, the subject of this community engagement are highlighted in yellow below and are contained with three (3) Crown Records at Sections 131 and 134-137 Hundred of Kondoparinga, within Crown Records Volume 5693 Folio 750, Volume 5693 Folio 751 and Volume 5696 Folio 869. They are located within a privately owned land parcel, as outlined in red below.
The reserves in this subdivision (as highlighted above in yellow) are Crown land under Council’s care and control, dedicated to Council for a combination of reserve, drainage and walkway purposes which in practice, do not provide realistic open space solutions for the current or future community use of this space.
At the 20 November 2023 Council Meeting, the Council supported proceeding to community engagement on the proposal. The full proposal for the revocation of the community land classification, the history on the proposal and the merits for progressing this request are provided in the Information Pack
