In 2022/23 a project was included for consideration to deliver plans for construction of a Sound Shell within the Strathalbyn Soldiers Memorial Gardens to host multiple festivals each year.

Various events held within this Gardens utilise a temporary stage on the northern side of Angas River with spectators viewing on the southern side of the river bank.

The concept plans propose a permanent structure to be installed at this location on the Northern side where entertainers can deliver their performances during planned events and the general public can enjoy the structure as a permanent shelter at other times.

The structure would provide a valued asset during these planned events, and it is expected that it would be well utilised by the public at other times, however due to the location and inevitable engineering and construction challenges, costs to construct will be in excess of $500,000.

Before seeking supporting grant funding opportunities, we request feedback from the surrounding community on the proposed design of the Sound Shell.

How to submit feedback:

  • By Mail - please direct written submission to alex@alexandrina.sa.gov.au or
by post to Att: CEO, Alexandrina Council, PO Box 21, Goolwa SA 5214, or
  • In Person - where you can complete a hard copy survey at the Strathalbyn or Goolwa offices.

Submissions regarding the proposed concept design will be accepted by Council until 5pm Friday 10 May 2024.
