Project Update

At the 21 August Council meeting Council adopted six new updated By-laws that will commence on 29 December 2023. 

The following By-laws were adopted after the statutory required consultation period with public and government agencies:

  • By-law No. 1 – Permits and Penalties By-law 2023
  • By-law No. 2 – Local Government Land By-law 2023
  • By-law No. 3 – Roads By-law 2023
  • By-law No. 4 – Moveable Signs By-law 2023
  • By-law No. 5 – Dogs By-law 2023
  • By-law No. 6 – Cats By-law 2023

Current By-laws will remain in place until the commencement of the new By-laws.

The new updated By-laws will be published on Council’s website closer to commencement.

The By-Laws for your feedback are:

  • Permits and Penalties By-law 2023 – By-law No. 1

This By-law is to create a permit system for Council By-laws, to fix maximum and continuing penalties for offences, and to clarify the construction of Council By-laws

  • Local Government Land By-law 2023 – By-law No. 2

This By-law is to manage and regulate the access to and use of Local Government land and certain public places.

  • Roads By-law 2023 – By-law No. 3

This By-law is for the management, control and regulation of certain activities on roads in the Council’s area.

  • Moveable Signs By-law 2023 – By-law No. 4

This By-law is to set standards for moveable signs on roads and to provide conditions for the placement of such signs for the purpose of protecting visual amenity and public safety in the Council’s area.

If this By-law is made, the Council’s Sign, Banner and Flag Policy will operate to apply this By-law. More specifically, the Policy will operate to provide permission under this By-law for signs to be displayed, in certain circumstances, other than in accordance with this By-law. A copy of the Policy is available for review in connection with this By-law.

  • Dogs By-law 2023 – By-law No. 5

This By-law is to limit the number of dogs kept on premises and for the management and control of dogs in the Council’s area.

  • Cats By-law 2023 – By-law No. 6

This By-law is to limit the number of cats kept on premises and for the management and control of cats in the Council’s area.
