Goolwa Terrace Roundabout – Revocation of Community Land Classification

Council’s Strategic Land Program has identified an anomaly associated with a portion of the reserve known as Jekejere Park, resulting from the roadworks associated with the Hindmarsh Island Bridge construction.

At the time of the installation of the roundabout to control traffic at the junction of Brooking Street, Goolwa Terrace and Liverpool Road (at the bottom of the Hindmarsh Island bridge), a portion of the reserve was utilised (by encroachment) for the build of the roundabout currently operating from this location.

The area of reserve being used as road, is identified in red below. It is this portion of the reserve that Council seeks to revoke the community land classification over, in order to commence a process to open it as road.

As this road has a high traffic flow, including large numbers of heavy vehicles and caravans, it is highly desirable for it to be formally opened as road, so it can be treated as road under applicable Legislation.

In order to open the portion of the reserve to road, Council must revoke the classification of community land over that portion of land. As community land is land set aside for the benefit of the community, Council seeks community feedback on the proposal to revoke a portion of the reserve from community land, so it can become road. The land is not proposed to be sold.

Community engagement on progressing this proposal will inform Council and the Minister responsible for making the final decision, with the advantages, disadvantage and community appetite to revoke the classification of community land or otherwise.

The full proposal for the conversion of portion of the land to road, is provided in the Information Pack.

How to submit feedback:

  • By Mail - please direct written submission to alex@alexandrina.sa.gov.au or
by post to Att: CEO, Alexandrina Council, PO Box 21, Goolwa SA 5214, or
  • In Person - where you can complete a hard copy survey at the Strathalbyn or Goolwa offices.

Submissions regarding the proposal will be accepted by Council until Friday 27 October 2023.
