At its Council Meeting on 21 September 2020, Alexandrina Council determined that it will apply to the Minister for Primary Industries and Regional Development under Section 5A(1) of the Genetically Modified Crops Management Act 2004 for the designation of the Alexandrina Council area as an area in which no genetically modified food crops may be cultivated.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to complete our survey and provide additional information in relation to whether Council applied to become a GM crop free area. Council was also pleased to hear from those that chose to make a deputation with all the information received enabling Council to make their decision to be a GM crop free area.
A copy of Council’s application is available here, which includes copies of all of the submissions received.
We will now await the Minister’s decision, which must be determined by 15 November 2020. Once known an update will be provided on this page and more broadly on Council’s website.
