Consultation has concluded

We invite you to share your view on the draft Cats By-Law and proposed Cat Management in the Alexandrina region.

The aim of the Cats By-Law is to promote responsible pet ownership, increase the welfare of cats, and protect the community and the environment from nuisance cats.

The draft Cats By-Law seeks to balance the needs of pet owners and the broader community, where people and pets can safely co-exist within the community.

The draft Cats By-Law covers the following:

  • limit on cat numbers
  • cats are not to be a nuisance
  • effective confinement of cats
  • registration of cats
  • Council exemptions.

Council welcomes feedback from our community regarding the draft Cats By-Law.

You can ‘Have Your Say’ by completing the online survey below.

Submissions will be accepted until 5pm on Monday, 13 June and can be provided:

  • In Person - where you can complete a hard copy survey at the Strathalbyn or Goolwa offices
  • By Mail - written submissions can be sent by mail to

  • Online - complete the online survey below.
