Alexandrina Drive, Clayton Bay – Proposed Extension of 50km/h Speed Limit
Project Update
Council received strong support for the proposal to extend the 50km speed zone on Alexandrina Drive with 92% in favour.
Council formally submitted a request to the Department for Infrastructure and Transport (DIT) to extend the speed limit to 50km/h.
The request was accepted by DIT and new signs to be installed April 2024.
Reason for Speed Limit Review
Multiple Concerns have been raised by the Community about the 80km/h speed zone that runs through to the western side of Clayton Bay along Alexandrina Drive. Many residents have informed Council that they believe this speed limit is too fast and that it should be reduced to 50km/h.
Council have reviewed the speed limit and agree that a reduction of speed along Alexandrina Drive would be warranted.
DIT Involvement
All speed limits and associated signage are controlled by the Department of Infrastructure and Transport (DIT) in which any changes to speed limits must be approved by them.
Council must seek approval from DIT before changing any speed limits (even on Council roads). Part of this approval process requires Council to have community support which is why we are consulting with the Clayton Bay community to ask if you wish for Council to formally submit an application for the lowering of the speed limit as per the plan over the page.
Please note that even a positive outcome from this survey doesn’t necessarily mean that DIT will approve Council’s request for a speed limit reduction.
