My Say, My Council: Public and Environmental Health Staff win Major Award

Did you know that local government plays a major role in contributing to the public and environmental health of our community?

Alexandrina Council has a hard-working team of four who support our Council area and the surrounding region do just that.

They have just won a major award in recognition of the quality of their work.

As Regional winners of Council of Public & Environmental Health Award 2010-2011, the award recognises excellence in the field of public and environmental health.

The award was initiated and developed by the Public & Environmental Health Council and sponsored by the Department of Health and Ageing and the Local Government Association

Alexandrina Council have been shortlisted for the award every year since the award’s inception and received either the winner’s award or runner up award each year.

Well done team!

My Say, My Community: Water and Wine - upcoming consultation

Alexandrina Council is working on an exciting new initiative to better connect our tourism, primary production, environmental and cultural strengths.

Called Water and Wine it will see premium infrastructure upgrades of the Goolwa Wharf Precinct as a platform for connecting with tourism experiences across our region.

This is a major, multi-million dollar regional infrastructure project which will achieve greater national and international prominence as a premium attraction as well as growing regional prosperity through resulting tourism growth, diversifying markets for local primary producers and sustained creative and heritage endeavours.

Alexandrina Council were not successful in attracting Federal funding for this project but are currently preparing formal public consultation to support progression of Council-related components and readiness for future funding opportunities.

Interim discussion question: What do you think are the regional benefits of premium upgrades to the Goolwa Wharf Precinct and building strong industry links between heritage, arts and culture, primary production, local food and wine movements and tourism?

Community Arts - Do you have any other suggestions for local arts in "every nook and cranny?"

So far, our community have participated in ArtBurst to bring community arts to our spaces.

- Flag making by community groups and schools
- Lantern making - for the large floating fish at Watersong
- Hand carried lanterns for the Lantern Parade at Interval
- Shell and water drop strands hanging from the trees down Cutting Road

What other ideas do you have? What little or big spaces can we ArtBurst?

Community Arts - Have you seen the painted stobie poles in Hay and Hayborough Streets, Goolwa?

Alexandrina Council and City of Victor Harbor have announced that "It is now clearly evident that it will have to be a community (council) subsidised public sector project."
