My Say, My Council: Public and Environmental Health Staff win Major Award

My Say, My Council: Public and Environmental Health Staff win Major Award

Did you know that local government plays a major role in contributing to the public and environmental health of our community?

Alexandrina Council has a hard-working team of four who support our Council area and the surrounding region do just that.

They have just won a major award in recognition of the quality of their work.

As Regional winners of Council of Public & Environmental Health Award 2010-2011, the award recognises excellence in the field of public and environmental health.

The award was initiated and developed by the Public & Environmental Health Council and sponsored by the Department of Health and Ageing and the Local Government Association

Alexandrina Council have been shortlisted for the award every year since the award’s inception and received either the winner’s award or runner up award each year.

Well done team!

My Say, My Campaign: Move All Salt to the Sea

One Murray-Darling Basin; One Lasting Legacy - read our submission on the Proposed Basin Plan!

Mayor Kym McHugh is spearheading Alexandrina Council's national campaign to "move all salt to the sea" in an effort to keep the iconic Murray Mouth open and maintain a healthy, working Murray-Darling Basin.

In November, the Murray Darling Basin Authority released the draft Murray Darling Basin Plan with a 20 week consultation period.

On 16 April 2012, Alexandrina Council provided our submission on the Proposed Basin Plan to the Murray-Darling Basin Authority seeking amendments in the plan to include targets within the Lower Lakes for salinity, water levels and connectivity - among other requests.

My Say, My Community: Water and Wine - upcoming consultation

My Say, My Community: Water and Wine - upcoming consultation

Alexandrina Council is working on an exciting new initiative to better connect our tourism, primary production, environmental and cultural strengths.

Called Water and Wine it will see premium infrastructure upgrades of the Goolwa Wharf Precinct as a platform for connecting with tourism experiences across our region.

This is a major, multi-million dollar regional infrastructure project which will achieve greater national and international prominence as a premium attraction as well as growing regional prosperity through resulting tourism growth, diversifying markets for local primary producers and sustained creative and heritage endeavours.

Alexandrina Council were not successful in attracting Federal funding for this project but are currently preparing formal public consultation to support progression of Council-related components and readiness for future funding opportunities.

My Say, My Rates: 2012 Review of Rating Policy

My Say, My Rates: 2012 Review of Rating Policy

This consultation has concluded. Thank you to all those who viewed or participated in the consultation. A Rating Review 2012 Report was tabled at the Alexandrina Council meeting of 20 March 2012 and can be viewed here.  At that meeting, Alexandrina Council foreshadowed:

"1. That it does not intend to introduce a differential rate for vacant land and will further consider the introduction of a fixed charge (base rate) model.

2. That it intends to consider a capping policy for all ratepayers and supports the continuation of a differential rate for primary production.

That the community be thanked for their participation in the Rating Review noting that Council now will take the consultation feedback into consideration during forthcoming budget deliberations and that further consultation on Council's rate policy will occur during the preparation of the draft Annual Business Plan.

CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY”
